We provide a service to the IPY community in helping to develop "DataStories" to convey to broad audiences the process of IPY science in action, from the beginning stages of planning research and reviewing existing data, to efforts in the field to collect new data, to back in the lab and at the data center where data are managed and modeled. Providing a human context to how science is conducted, and data are generated will, we anticipate, help demystify the scientific process, demonstrate what scientists know (and don't know) about changes in polar regions, and assist society in understanding and preparing for the global impacts of such changes.
