IFM: Indigenous Peoples' Forum on Environmental Monitoring in the Arctic
“Environmental Monitoring: an Indigenous Perspective” is a four-day forum scheduled for 2007 (fall), in Ottawa. It will provide an opportunity for Inuit and other Indigenous Peoples to voice their issues and concerns on the monitoring of their environment. The forum will demonstrate how the capacity, knowledge and viewpoints of Indigenous Peoples can guide environmental monitoring and decision-making processes in the Arctic.

ARCTWILDMED: Course in Arctic Wildlife Medicine and Welfare
"ENVIROVET ARCTIC will provide four weeks of lecture, laboratory and field experiences in Northern Norway and Svalbard to wildlife biologists, veterinarians, students on the university level and managers in the area of Arctic marine and terrestrial wildlife and ecosystem health. It course will highlight international cooperation and the transdisciplinary nature of work required for effective wildlife and ecosystem research and problem-solving in the Arctic.

AQ-NWO100: Arctic Quest - Northwest passage 100 Year Celebration
25 artists will travel Arctic waters summer 2006, celebrating Amundsen's 1906 navigation of the Northwest Passage. Following earlier Arctic artists, they will paint their northern impressions and return south to share the images across Canada and beyond. With this historical body of artwork created for the new millennium, they hope to increase interest and awareness in the Arctic and bring attention to its beauty and fragile nature.

ICEE: Integrated Communication, Education and Evaluation
Integrated Communication, Education and Evaluation: A Clearinghouse and Coordinating Effort for IPY EOC
Working with education and communication experts around the world, we will help coordinate and add value to IPY education, outreach and communications (EOC) activities, linking to formal and informal science education networks and standards, leveraging existing talent and tools in order to help maximize the potential for IPY to serve as a catalyst for science education and awareness.

Arctic Energy Summit
International summit and working group conference on the development and deployment of energy resources in the Arctic including remote and rural villages
Focusing on the Arctic as an emerging energy province, the Arctic Energy Summit is comprised of a web-based educational program, an international technology conference to be held in Anchorage, Alaska Oct. 14-18, 2007 and the creation of an arctic energy task force to develop a vision and programmatic way forward related to the development and deployment of Arctic energy.

6CI: The Sixth Continent Initiative
The Sixth Continent Initiative aims to introduce scientists from countries who have no experience in Antarctica to the research which is carried out there, during the IPY 2007, as a reaffirmation of the provision of the Antarctic Treaty that dedicates the continent to peace and science for all mankind.

UArctic - Shared Voices, Shared Knowledge for IPY
The University of the Arctic (UArctic) will provide and coordinate IPY higher education and outreach activities and services. The UArctic IPY office is located at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Our aim is to provide opportunities for Arctic indigenous people and northern residents to be active IPY participants through UArctic education programs and IPY research projects. During IPY, UArctic’s objective is to increase the participation of indigenous people and northern residents of all ages in education and research, with the ultimate, longer-term goal of increasing their representation in the ranks of scholars who have attained the Ph.D.

IAI: International Antarctic Institute
An International Antarctic University The International Antarctic Institute is a consortium being developed by leading global Antarctic educational and research-intensive institutes. Its purpose is to facilitate cooperation and collaboration between member universities in Antarctic undergraduate and postgraduate multi disciplinary education. By sharing teaching resources between international partner universities we can create educational opportunities on a scale unattainable by any one institute or through traditional bilateral alliances.

Go Polar! An International Network of Children’s Museums to Bring Polar Science to Families
In 2004, undergraduates of the University of South Carolina and informal educators of EdVenture Children’s Museum created a “Go Polar Festival” to bring the science, history, culture and politics of the polar regions to children and families. Funding is being sought to create an international “Go Polar Network” by training educators from museums, zoos, aquariums and science centers in order to deliver enhanced versions of the Polar Festival in parallel with IPY.
