The Forum on Biological Prospecting has been established and a call for submissions has been posted on the forum. Thanks to the colleagues who responded already to take part in the ICG.
The work will be conducted in accordance with the following time table:
- 30 November 2007: Deadline for submissions on the web forum;
- 31 December 2007: Circulation of draft report of the ICG to the participants in the ICG;
- 28 February 2008: Deadline for comments on the web forum on the draft report of the ICG;
- 31 March 2008: Submission of report of the ICG to the Secretariat.
In view of the terms of reference of the ICG, the substantive work of the ICG consists of:
- Identifying issues related to biological prospecting in the Antarctic Treaty Area;
- Identifying current activities related to biological prospecting in the Antarctic Treaty area; and
- Suggesting working modalities for consideration by the ATCM
The participants in the web forum are invited to provide input for the first stage of the work of the ICG in the form of a submission on the web forum on these three items, and are requested to clearly identify to which of these three items their submission, or parts of their submission, is related. The Netherlands will draft a report of the ICG to ATCM XXXI on the basis for these submissions.
