Steve Martindale has written a nice piece on Spaceref.com called Scientists go online to Educate Public about Antarctica. It mentions, among others, the IPY ANDRILL project, and particularly their outreach component which involves taking teachers to Antarctica to participate in a deep driling project. This is certainly one of the most successful IPY outreach projects so far and well worth speading the word!
