The Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center and the Marine Technology Society’s ROV Committee organize an annual International ROV Competition for middle school through university-level students worldwide. In recognition of IPY, the 2007 competition is challenging students to design and build remotely-operated vehicles--underwater robots--for science, exploration, and industry operations in polar environments.
Student teams from middle schools, high schools, home schools, community colleges, and universities from around the world participate in the competition, which is fun, educational, and promotes the development of technical, problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills. In addition, the ROV competition connect students and educators with employers and working professionals from marine industries and highlights marine-related career opportunities.
