This paper by Glenn M. Stein, FRGS and Lydia I. Iarukova, Director of the Russian Geographical Society Museum, presents for the first time in English, an overview of Russian polar exploration and research (almost exclusively Arctic) through a study of medals awarded by the Russian Geographical Society, their recipients and achievements, during the period of 1845-1995.
