Earth, Wind and Fire
Cape Farewell Late Night Friday at Whitechapel
Friday 11 May, 7-11 pm
======================================

Cape Farewell presents a night of new songs, performances,
artworks and information prompted by the urgency of climate change.
Part of Whitechapels Late Night Fridays series.

The evening showcases Nature Songs, taking you from the sublime to the ridiculous,
these songs have grown out of an exciting new collaboration between composer Tim
Sutton and singer Ade Omatayo. Sion Parkinson sings five original songs accompanied
by banjo. Daniel Edelstyn plays out a set of weather-inflected songs - songs that
disappear into the night, catch them if you can... In the interests of
energy-neutrality, all performances will be unplugged.

Fresh from its triumphant premiere in Hamburg William Hunt performs Earth, Wind and
Fire - witness the body at the mercy of the elements. Rhiannon Armstrong requests
the help of others to illuminate an interactive globe-shaped costume. Tim Graves
presents The Plight of the Waders, mapping the future landscape of climate-change
London - when the Thames rises will your street survive? Adrian Lee invites you to
vitalise the otherwise wasted energy from a stepper machine. Bullet presents works
by graphic artist Jody Barton.

A 16mm film installation by Nick Edwards returns us to the Arctic - a landscape no
longer to be viewed as beautiful in the abstract, but rather as a battleground for
our planets survival. Max Eastleys sound composition Arctic permeates the space.
Ready to engage in up-to-the-minute debate, Climate Scientist Prof. Mark Maslin of
the Environmental Change Research Centre, UCL will be on hand. There will also be a
resource area with books selected by the artists and an information exchange board,
please bring anything youd like to contribute to it.

This night of events is curated by Kathy Barber, Vicky Long and Ali MacGilp.
A pay bar will be open on the evening, come and join us for a drink.
