The Arctic Energy Summit Technology Conference will be held
15-18 October 2007 in Anchorage, Alaska, is one of three components of the Arctic Energy Summit, an International Polar Year-endorsed project (
# 299) and a Sustainable Development Working Group initiative of the Arctic Council. The Summit will bring focus to the areas of developing resources while addressing the need for affordable energy in rural areas throughout the Arctic.

The Technology Conference, set in Anchorage, Alaska October 15-18, 2007, will bring together some 600 to 1,000 researchers, academics, government leaders, industry representatives, and residents of the Arctic for presentations of technical papers on significant Arctic energy research, panel discussions and keynote addresses on major policy areas of concern and/or interest, as well as a poster session of new technology and a two-day industry exposition.
The technology conference will provide a forum for the presentation of international, interdisciplinary technical research papers on the Arctic as an emerging energy province. Technical papers will include the fields of extractive energy in the Arctic, rural power in the Arctic, and sustainability of energy in the Arctic.
US Senator Lisa Murkowski and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin are scheduled to open the conference with energy experts from around the Arctic expected to provide their perspective. The conference continues with two days of paper presentations on technical aspects of energy in the Arctic and panel discussions on policy and rural energy challenges, in addition to a two-day energy exposition with up to 100 exhibitors.
The closing plenary session on Day 4 will feature a panel discussion of future technologies, concluding remarks and the creation of an international Arctic energy action team potentially comprised of energy experts from the eight Arctic nations, producers, investors, consumers, landowners and governments; as well as experts in the fields of transportation, supply security and climate change.
Additionally, the Institute of the North is investigating the possibility of offsetting the carbon footprint of the conference and its participants.

The conference will be held in the Egan Convention Center in downtown Anchorage. The cost of registration is $950 for participants and $600 for speakers, although an early-bird discount of $100 will apply to anyone who completes registration before
