IPY 2007-2008

The School aims to contribute to the public and scientific understanding of the basic concepts an the applications of integrated ground-based observing systems. Lectures will characterize most common instrumentations with their strengths and limitations and will introduce techniques for integrating different sources of observation.

Strategic plans for the deployment and the management of an observation site will be discussed. Most important applications will be presented, including assimilation in numerical wether prediction models, climate studies, satellite data calibration/validation, air quality monitoring, meteo and hydrological warnings.

ISSAOS 2007 will be held in the Auditorium "Nino CArloni" of the Spanish Fortress in the old town centre. LAquila, a late medieval town, was founded in the 13th Century and it is situated in a valley surrounded by the highest mountain of the Appennines, the Gran Sasso dItalia. LAquila is about 100km east of Rome. The nearest airports are the International "L. da Vinci" - Fiumicino (FCO) in Rome and the Abruzzo International (PSR) in Pescara.

Registration costs:

Before May 30th: 500 euros (350 euros for students)
After 30th May: 650 euros (450 euros for students)
