New York City International Polar Weekend
Saturday-Sunday, February 7-8
12-5 pm EST
American Museum of Natural History, New York City, USA

This family-style event is a New York celebration of highlights from the International Polar Year (IPY). 2009 is the third annual IPW, each designed to bring the excitement and experiences of IPY research, people, cultures and environment to the New York public. The weekend will include events and activities for all ages including cultural performances, short lectures, film clips with commentary, and an interactive Polar Fair, polar art —with scientists, explorers, artists, and performers from Greenland, Russia, Norway and Canada, as well as the United States. This years event is offered in partnership with Polar Palooza, and includes a special Saturday morning teacher workshop, and two school age sessions on Friday 2/6/09. Event website

New York City International Polar Weekend is sponsored by AMNH, Columbia University, Barnard College, the Explorers Club and Wings WorldQuest, with special participation from the Norwegian Consulate, in partnership with Polar-Palooza and funding from the National Science Foundation.
