Description
On February 26, join Dr. Waleed Abdalati for a lecture on the rapid changes in the polar regions of the Earth. From disappearing Arctic sea ice to the disintegration of 10,000 year-old Antarctic ice shelves, the Earth’s cover is changing in remarkable ways. Because ice plays a critical role in shaping our planet’s environment, understanding changes like these is crucial. The space-based view of Earth provided by satellites gives new insights into how and why ice is changing and what these changes may mean for life on Earth. Since 2000, Dr. Abdalati has been Manager of NASA’s Cryospheric Sciences Program, overseeing NASA-funded research efforts on glaciers, ice sheets, sea ice, and polar climate.
