Description
With the expedition three major goals will be achieved:
1. Sporting
2. Educational
3. Informational
1) Sporting achievement by crossing the 650-km wide icecap.
To achieve this there there will need to be a lot of training and preparation, by means of a extended training programme, training expeditions and courses.
2) Educational programme for/by student of the Teachers Academy
A cooperative agreement has been formed with a teachers academy. Students will make a educational programme for elementary schoolchildren. For the programme there will be input from the Polar institute of the university of Groningen. Contacts have been made with the Dutch department of the International Polar Year (NWO in The Hague), the IPY Youth Steering Committee and the HIER climate campaign.
3) Create awareness about climate change in the polar regions.
Using all the communications power the expedition will have, readers and viewers will be made aware about the impact of Greenland on our daily lives and of the results of global warming. Cooperation has been sought with the HIER climate programme and internationally with UNEP/GRID Arendal in Norway (Polar research bureau of the UN). Most communications power will come by means of the documentary which will be sold on the international market. This documentary will be made by an external production company. Also traditional media will be used, such as newspapers, television, magazines, radio and the internet.
