NISSE launch campaign under way!
The NISSE launch campaign
The launch campaign of the REXUS 5/6 rockets started on 2 Mar and will last until 15 Mar, 2009. According to the latest time schedule, REXUS 6 with NISSE onboard will be launched next Tuesday 10 Mar, and the other rocket REXUS 5 on Thursday 12 Mar. But this may also turn to be vice versa.
The NISSE team has been busy with last preparations of the experiment for the launch. Vidar Hølland and Gard Mellemstrand has been concentrating on the payload assembly and Timo Pitkänen has taken care of the preparations for the EISCAT radar measurements. The fourth member of the team, Gisela Baumann, arrived at Esrange today and will stay for the rest of the campaign.

UK Polar Network: Atmospheric Sciences Workshop April 29 - May 1, 2009
The UK Polar Network is proud to present the Atmospheric Sciences Workshop, to be held at the British Antarctic Survey from April 29 to May 1, 2009.
This workshop is aimed at early career polar researchers with an interest in atmospheric chemistry or climate modelling.

Full registration is now open. Deadline is February 28. Application form is here.
Places are limited, so you are advised to sign up quickly. Registration is free, and you will only be asked for a small contribution (£20) towards hospitality.

A study suggests that extreme weather events in the Arctic will become more common as the winter ice cover retreats, with potentially severe consequences for human activity.
