The 32nd annual meeting of the British Branch of the International Glaciological Society will be hosted by the School of GeoSciences at The University of Edinburgh, UK, on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th September 2007.
Presentations
Presentations are invited on all aspects of ice and snow research, in the form of either a short talk or a poster. Time allocated for individual talks will be 15 minutes, plus 5 minutes for discussion. There will also be a session for shorter talks of 8 minutes, plus 2 minutes for discussion, for less formal presentations (e.g. hot-off-the-press field results or talks by recently-started postgraduate students). The total number of talks will be restricted to ensure there is sufficient time to allow for informal discussion and viewing of posters. Pinboards will be provided for posters, which will be on display throughout the meeting. Delegates presenting posters will be required to give a two-minute ‘advertisement’ for their poster prior to the poster session. Awards for the best student poster and oral presentation will be made at the end of the meeting.
If you wish to give a talk or poster, please submit your abstract of up to 1 side of A4 by 27th July 2007. Please submit abstracts by {encode="

Registration
If you wish to attend the meeting, please fill out the attached registration form and return by 27th July 2007 to the address below. Delegates may either register for individual days (£25 per day waged and £20 per day unwaged) and the annual dinner (£20). Registration includes morning and afternoon tea or coffee, lunch, refreshments during the poster session and the booklet of abstracts. Please fill out the attached registration form with your requirements and enclose a cheque for the amount required. Cheques should be made payable to University of Edinburgh.
Accommodation
Due to the timing of the conference, we are unable to provide any university accommodation for delegates. We have compiled a list and map of accommodation options in various price ranges to assist you in finding a place to stay (www.geos.ed.ac.uk/igsbbm07/). A limited amount of floor space is available for postgraduates with sleeping bags who indicate this preference on the registration form. Accommodation in Edinburgh for September fills-up early so we recommend you book as soon as possible. Let us know if you need assistance with finding somewhere to stay.
Postgraduate funding assistance
In addition to providing a reduced registration fee to unwaged delegates we hope to be able to assist postgraduate students in attending the meeting by the reimbursement of travel costs when all other avenues of potential funding (e.g. department, university and grant-awarding body) have been exhausted. Please request an application form at the meeting or download it from the meeting’s website.
Eating arrangements
Lunch on both days will be provided as part of the registration fee. There will be an annual dinner on the evening of 12th September at a cost of £20.00 per person. The annual dinner will be held at a nearby restaurant (Best, 16 Drummond Street). Please indicate any dietary requirements on the registration form.
Further details
Updated details of the meeting (plus travel information) will available on the
website.
A third circular with details of the speaker/poster programme will be circulated electronically to registered delegates by the end of August.
Registration at the meeting will take place between 10 and 10.45 am on Wednesday 12th September, with the first oral session provisionally starting at 11 am. The final session will be timed to finish no later than 4.30 pm on Thursday 13th.
We hope to see you at Edinburgh in September. If you need any further information please contact us on the contact details below.
