2nd International Neumayer-Symposium on Polar Research and Award of the "Georg von Neumayer-Medal"

Invitation

Following the great success of the 1st Symposium held in 2001 we are pleased to invite all scientists working on any aspect of the polar regions to meet from Sept. 20th until Sept. 23rd 2007 in Bad Dürkheim, Germany, for the 2nd International Neumayer-Symposium on Polar Research, together with the Award of the "Georg von Neumayer-Medal".

The meeting will consist of three sessions of talks, each one lasting 20 minutes (including discussion). Talks will be grouped based on broad themes.

Sept. 20th:

Afternoon: arrival of participants
Evening: icebreakerparty

Sept. 21st:

Morning: talks
Afternoon: award of the Georg von Neumayer-Medal
Evening: reception at the Pfalzmuseum für Naturkunde, visit to the reorganised Neumayer exhibition

Sept. 22nd:

Morning: talks
Afternoon: talks, final discussion
Evening: public lecture
afterwards: final dinner and wine tasting

Sept. 23rd:

Morning: departure of participants

Proposed sessions:

- climate change and its impact in past and present polar ecosystems
- history of polar research
- biodiversity of polar regions


Registration fees

A down payment for the meeting will be requested in the 2nd circular. The balance will be due at the time of the meeting, payable in Euro.

Before May 1st 2007:

Regular participant: 100 €, includes meeting resources and support, refreshment at session brakes, reception at the Pfalzmuseum für Naturkunde and final dinner with wine tasting.
Students, unemployed, pensioners: 50 €, as above; you must provide a student identification card or another document to prove your status at time of on-site registration.

After May 1st 2007:

Regular participant: 150 €; students, unemployed, pensioners: 75 €.
